Operations transformation
Operations advisory is the work of fixing how work gets done. Method & Matter examines how work actually moves through your business, from first contact to finished delivery, redesigns the operating model where it breaks down, and builds the workflows, tooling, and habits that make the fix permanent.
Who we work with
We work with growing service businesses whose delivery has outgrown how the company runs: engineering and architecture firms, professional services, IT providers, contractors, specialty manufacturers, multi-location practices. The signs are consistent: work takes longer than it should, nobody can say exactly where it stalls, the owners spend their days unblocking instead of leading, and every new hire or client adds friction faster than it adds capacity.
Where to start
The Growth Operations Assessment
Most engagements begin with a focused assessment: two to three weeks, built around interviews with your leadership team and a walk-through of how work actually moves through the business: how a lead becomes a client, how a client becomes finished work, and where time and margin leak in between. You receive a written assessment, a prioritized ninety-day roadmap with the return on each fix estimated, and an executive readout with your leadership team. Quick wins surface along the way; where automation would remove work your team should not be doing by hand, we name it.
Operations domains
Sales & marketing operations
How a lead becomes a client. Pipeline, follow-up, quoting, and the handoff between what marketing promises and what delivery provides.
Delivery operations
How won work becomes finished work. Intake, resourcing, prioritization, scheduling, and the handoffs between the people who sell, plan, and do.
Business operations
The internal machinery: intake, approvals, reporting lines, and the processes that decide whether the organization runs on systems or on heroics.
Reporting & decision support
The numbers leadership actually runs on. Which reports matter, where the data lives, and how it reaches a decision without rekeying or guesswork.
The program arc
Every program follows the same arc of diagnose, design, enable, delivered in phases with fixed fees and named milestones.
| Phase | What happens | What you receive |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery | We observe real work, interview the people who do it, and map the actual workflow rather than the documented one. | A diagnosis of where time, money, and quality leak, with recommendations in priority order. |
| Operating model & pilot design | We redesign roles, handoffs, and workflow, and define pilots to prove the changes on live work. | An operating model your team recognizes as workable, and pilots scoped to test it. |
| Build handoff | We coordinate your internal team or vendors through the changes the model requires, holding decisions to the design. | Implementation that matches what was proven in the pilot, owned by the people who will run it. |
| Adoption & embed | We stay while the team makes the new way of working its own: training, adjusting, and retiring the old paths. | A workflow that runs without us. |
Programs conclude with an optional continuity period: capped, escalation-only availability while the change settles.
Optional add-on
Automation & AI prototypes
When the operating model calls for automation or AI agents, we can scope a separate prototype engagement. Prototypes prove the idea on your real workflow before anyone invests in production build. This work is not part of the base program. Production build sits with your engineers, a vendor, or a specialist we bring in. Method & Matter defines what to prove, coordinates the handoff, and stays accountable for fit with the operating model.
The work behind the offer
- Audited media operations for a Fortune 10 advertiser; the findings restructured how campaigns move from plan to launch.
- Automated media operations for a global consumer health company, removing manual steps from every campaign cycle.
- Audited operations for major pharmaceutical brands operating under strict regulatory constraints.
- Audited go-to-market strategy for a global ad-tech platform and helped leadership carry the changes through.
- Ran a full operations program for a digital marketing agency, from diagnosis through adoption.
We do not name our clients. Confidentiality is part of the service.
Common questions
Who actually does the work?
The principal leads every engagement. The person you meet in the first conversation is the person running your program. When the work needs more hands or a specialist, we bring them in. Method & Matter stays accountable for the whole.
How long does this take?
The Growth Operations Assessment runs two to three weeks. A full program typically runs four to six months, depending on scope. We quote fixed fees per phase, so you decide at each milestone whether to continue.
We're a twenty-person company, not an enterprise. Is this built for us?
Yes. The assessment is sized for businesses roughly ten to a hundred people: large enough that operations are the constraint, not yet large enough for a full-time operations executive. Programs are phased with fixed fees.
What does my team experience during an engagement?
We watch real work and run short interviews. We do not fill the calendar with workshops. Changes reach your team as pilots they help shape.
Where does AI and automation fit?
As an optional add-on, when discovery shows automation or AI agents would remove work your team should not be doing by hand. Prototypes are scoped separately. Production build sits with your engineers, a vendor, or a specialist we coordinate.
Do you implement, or just recommend?
Both, in that order.
- Design the operating model
- Prove it with pilots
- Coordinate the handoff
- Stay through adoption
The engagement ends when the new workflow runs without us.
We're not sure which domain our problem lives in. Does that matter?
No. Operational problems rarely stay in one category. A sales problem is often an intake problem; a reporting problem is often a handoff problem. The assessment finds the real constraint.
